FAQ

How do I know what to expect from your services?
How long will it take for my document to be edited?
What if I'm not satisfied with my edit, proofread, bibliography, PowerPoint, etc.?
We hope that the pages describing our services are clear, but please do not hesitate to contact us to speak with us directly. We can schedule a free phone or virtual consult to discuss your needs and the ways in which Village Editing might be able to assist you.
If you'd like to know more about what to expect from our services before hiring us, we can also provide you with a page or two of a free sample edit. This can help you determine whether you would like to work with us. Please feel free to reach out to request an example edit of your text.
How long each project takes to complete depends entirely on the length of the document, the services needed, and your desired return date.
Before we start editing, we will fix an anticipated return date with you.
Depending on schedule, we can also accommodate offer quick turnarounds, potentially completing an edit the same or next day. Please contact us for availability and to discuss rush fees.
If you do not feel satisfied with our work upon completion, this would be very concerning to us! Please tell us if this is the case, and we will do what we can to remedy the situation. We value that you trust us with your writing, and your satisfaction is very important to us.
Similarly, if you find any typographical errors in a returned text, we will immediately revisit the document. We view editing as very serious, and we strive to do our best with each text.
A note on revisions: Following a round of editing, you might wish to make changes and updates, and then send the document back for a second read or revision. Additional edits are usually priced as new orders––but, please write to us and let us know your editing needs.
* We recognize that people come to editors while on journeys towards very important goals: college, research, composition. Please remember that working with an editor does not guarantee entry into a particular college, or any college; nor does it ensure that a paper will be accepted at a specific journal, nor does it mean that your PhD supervisors won't have additional comments and requests. But, we will definitely do all we can to help and support you; we will work alongside you to make certain that your writing is clear, strong, and grammatically sound, to aid you as you travel your academic path.

How do I determine what hiring Village Editing will cost?
How does payment work?
You can see our listed pricing on the relevant services pages:
text editing; research; consults; courses.
If you like, for context, you can compare our prices with those of the Editorial Freelancers Association: http://www.the-efa.org/rates.
For editing projects, it is much easier for us to offer you a quote if we can assess the text directly. When you send us your document (through uploading it on our contact page or emailing it to info@village-editing.com), please tell us what service(s) you are interested in. We will provide you with a specific price quote. If you know that your text needs help, but you're not sure which type or level of editing to request––please just let us know this! We will be very happy to give you our thoughts about which service(s) we think could best help your writing.
The way that you pay us depends on the type and duration of the project. For larger or ongoing projects, we can arrange payment in ways that you are comfortable with: for instance, for significant editing orders, you could pay 50% before, 50% on completion; for consults, you could pay hour-to-hour, or buy multiple hours at a discounted rate (please contact us). We are flexible, and we will try to accommodate your preferred payment approach.
We will never ask you to pay before we (you, the customer; and Village Editing) have communicated directly. We will have provided you with a clearly established idea of what to expect from our services and a fixed anticipated return date for your edited document.
Our courses are charged at flat rate fees. After you register, we will email you with additional information, some forms to fill out,
and an invoice / payment link.
You can navigate to the payment page in the menu, on the upper right corner of our site. We accept all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. You can alternately send a Zelle payment; please contact us for details.
* We know that the student population is the main demographic who requires academic editing, research assistance, and writing guidance. If you are interested in our services but find our pricing prohibitive, please reach out and speak with us. Our costs are negotiable for clients facing tight budgets or financial hardship.

Are you both an in-person and virtual editing service?
Can I hire Village Editing if I do not live in Houston, Texas?
Yes, we are both an in-person and virtual editing service.
In this internet age, we thought we might foreground in-person conversations, consultations, and writing coaching––whenever possible. Today, we're thrilled to operate out of The Village Suites in Rice Village, in (Central) Southwest Houston, Texas.
Come to this space to meet for an in-person, one-on-one consult!
The Village Suites is also where we hold our courses––in an airy, bright upstairs conference room.
We are very glad to also collaborate with clients around the world virtually––and we do. We have provided academic services to researchers throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. (And, we would be happy to expand to other regions!)
So, wherever you are located, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We can edit remotely with ease; and we are happy to hold virtual consults via Google Meet.
Our editors are native US English speakers but familiar with working in ESL (English as a Second Language) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) contexts.
We bring experience of study abroad, foreign college enrollment, and international academic systems and applications.
We might also be able to help you facilitate academic translation to and from other languages; please contact us with your query.

Why is this site anonymized (no names or photos)?
This site does not include personal information (names, bios, photos) to preserve and promote privacy in a very public digital time.
However, we understand that you might want to know more about Village Editing before hiring us. Please send us a message and ask to schedule a free phone or virtual consult; in this setting, we will happily discuss more about our approach, qualifications, and experiences.
We can also put you directly in contact with satisfied, long-term clients, should you wish.
Our focus on anonymity and internet privacy also extends to you, our (potential) customers: We do not publicly disclose our clients, to respect their confidentiality. We will always safeguard your name, work, and project; we will glady provide you a signed NDA before our collaboration commences.
No, we are not affiliated with Rice University.
However, we are very familiar with Rice; our main editor (with whom you will likely be working) attended Rice and has spent countless hours in Rice's Fondren Library since graduating.

A few disclaimers:
* We will not compose your academic work for you. This is of course due to our commitment to academic integrity––but it is also because we truly believe that you can successfully write yourself! Everyone has a unique writing voice, style, and perspective; we are glad to encourage you in your writing journey and help you grow and cultivate your ability. At times, writing projects may seem daunting; we prioritize building writers' faith in their own abilities.
(However, non-university instances of ghostwriting, and helping prepare existing academic texts for publication, are situations in which we may indeed be able to help. Please contact us about these services.)
* We do not condone any form of plagiarism, and we assume that our clients share our perspective on academic ethics and the rigor of composition. The use of plagiarism checkers is well beyond the scope of the services we offer; we presume that the text you send us was indeed written by you. However, if we sense that a section of your text might need more citations, or if it seems that some areas may have inadvertently drawn too much from an existing publication, we will immediately halt editing and reach out to you to share our concerns.
* We absolutely do not use any AI in our editing or research processes. Similarly, we are very wary of accepting editing orders on any writing that is AI-generated or AI-enhanced; we prefer not to do so. However, in the event that you are spearheading a project that clearly discloses the use of AI in its generation and you need an editor, please feel free to reach out to discuss this context with us.
* We reserve the right to select which projects we accept.
If we are unable to take on your project, we will do our best to connect you, free of charge, with an editor or editing service who will be able to help you.
Please contact us if you have any further questions; we will be very happy to speak with you. Please email to schedule a phone, virtual, or in-person introductory meeting––free of charge!
Thank you so much for considering Village Editing!
